Deborah Felin Magaldi: What One Person Can Do When They Decide to Care

Sometimes the biggest changes begin with one small decision.

When Deborah Felin Magaldi stopped to help a neighbour care for a group of feral cats, she had no idea it would eventually lead to founding one of Southern California’s most respected cat rescue organizations. In this conversation, Deborah shares not only the realities of animal rescue but also what compassion, empathy, and community can accomplish when ordinary people step forward.

In this conversation, you’ll discover:

  • How CatPAWS grew from one simple act of kindness
  • Why kitten season creates such enormous challenges for shelters
  • The life-changing impact of fostering cats and kittens
  • How accessible spay and neuter programs save thousands of lives
  • What to look for before supporting any charitable organization
  • Why animal abuse and domestic violence are often connected
  • The remarkable effect therapy animals can have in assisted living communities
  • Why Deborah believes everyone can make a difference
  • What “colouring outside the lines” has come to mean later in life

This episode may begin with cats, but its message reaches much further. It’s a conversation about empathy, purpose, and discovering that every one of us has the ability to improve the world around us.

About the guest: Deborah Felin Magaldi

Deborah Felin Magaldi is the Director of CatPAWS, the Helen Sanders Cat Protection and Welfare Society, a nonprofit she helped build from the ground up in 2010.

What began as a simple act of compassion, helping a neighbor care for feral cats, evolved into one of Southern California’s most responsive and mission-driven cat rescue organizations. With a background in business (BS Psychology and MBA), Deborah brought structure, strategy, and heart to a volunteer-run organization that now operates with annual donations and grants.

Under her leadership, CatPAWS rescues at-risk cats and kittens from public shelters, provides low- and no-cost spay/neuter clinics, runs a nationally recognized DIY Kitten Care Program, and brings comfort to assisted living residents through its Traveling Kitty Comfort and Therapy Show. Serving Long Beach, Orange County, and the surrounding Southern California region, Deborah is guided by one unwavering belief: every cat deserves a full and cherished life.
