Where do I begin to describe DC2! Three dogs and two cats. One lovely young man (pictured above!) Two rascally rambunctious young rescues. Two cats who come home to eat but are too smart to bother with two rascally rambunctious rescues.

Mr L is pictured above. I laughed out loud the first time I found him asleep like this… but it’s his usual position when not curled up in a ball so small you’d never believe he was a tall boy.

Messrs T & J are small, scrappy, former street dogs rescued by the loving family I was sitting for. More energy than a whole classroom full of Grade 4 boys!

The two cats are siblings: Miss D and Mr. R. They are quite different in appearance and temperment although they both seem to agree that the food was great at this house but the four-legged housemates weren’t worth the effort. Or maybe it was the temporary two-legged occupant, I’m not sure.  I didn’t see much of the cats… occasionally I’d see them prowling across a field, probably in stealthy pusuit of an unsuspecting rodent. Mr. R tried to say hello one day when I was out walking, but I had Messrs T & J on leash and they decided he was more chaseable than cuddleable so he took the hint posthaste.

I was out in the country for this sit. It’s an area I really like and it was fun to explore a bit. I only needed to be in town early once during the sit so didn’t have to battle the rush-hour traffic the route is infamous for. It was completely quiet at night so the sleeps were good… well, they had the potential to be great… all three dogs decided I was a warm and cozy bedmate so once in I couldn’t really move.  I tried to close them out one night but the barking that ensued was less restful than three beasts in a bed.

I can’t say enough good things about Mr. L.  He’s good company, great on leash, good manners, and often looked at me as if to say “I’m so sorry about those other two.” Hopefully living with Mr. L will set the bar for T & J!

Messrs T & J. What does Mr. Longfellow say about the little girl with the little curl? “when she was good, she was very, very good, But when she was bad she was horrid.”  I like animals and these two could be very sweet. But they scrapped with each other often, preferring to do it against my legs, wherever I was, and any reason was reason to bark. Which Mr. L was not above joining in with. T & J were pullers on leash – thank goodness for my broad shoulders! – and like most dogs needed to pee or overpee on anything and everything.

I will admit this sit was trying. I will probably not apply for sits with young recues again. They need more energy than I could muster – a long distance runner would have been more effective with their energy, I think. But I have the pics of us all curled up on the couch of an evening so I think they enjoyed my company and all’s well that ends well. Right?
